Minister for Skill, Industries and Commerce Chandra Mohan Patowary hands over skill certificates, appointment letters

Guwahati, July 18: Minister for Skill, Industries and Commerce Chandra Mohan Patowary handed over skill competency certificates and job offer letters to twenty trainees of IOCL sponsored programme at Janata Bhawan on Wednesday, a government communiqué said.

Under the CSR initiative of Indian Oil Corporation, Guwahati Refinery, twenty students comprising of six girls and fourteen boys, from economically marginalized section of the society, underwent a 5 months training programme on ‘Machine Operator – Plastic Injection Moulding’ at Plastic Waste Management Centre, CIPET, Guwahati. After completion of the course, all the students have been successfully placed along with free accommodation at two plastic manufacturing units at Aurangabad and Tarapur of Maharashtra.

Speaking on the occasion, Patowary said, ‘The Government has a vision to tackle the unemployment issue but government jobs alone cannot suffice. The only alternative arrangement lies in the areas of skill and industries.”

The Minister asked CIPET to conduct similar industry-oriented programmes which would be sponsored by ASDM. He asked Commissioner and Secretary of Skill Department to start the training programme in mission mode. “Skill Department has been assisting in providing finance, building and infrastructure and CIPET will extend faculty, tools and market linkages for conducting such training programmers’, he added.

The Minister lauded the CSR activity of IOCL in financially sustaining twenty trainees and their respective families. Congratulating the trainees, he asked them to aim high and excel in their skills and area of practice. “Many plastic-related manufacturing units have come up in Assam. In future these very trainees with their expertise and experience can get better opportunities in their hometowns and can be future master trainers as well,” he further said.

Attending the occasion, Executive Director of IOCL Jogen Barpujari said, ‘IOCL has a long sustained commitment for the society for which it has been extending sponsored programme in areas like hotel management, pisciculture, nursing etc.” He called upon the students to upgrade their skill to scale new heights.

Director of CIPET, KJ Ghai informed that there is a demand of 5 lakh jobs per annum in the plastic industry in states like Maharashtra and Gujarat. He stated that the course included plastic processing, moulding and recycling and the trainees have acquired the expertise to create plastic products.
