PCBA organizes awareness camps on pollution control in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Two awareness meetings on air pollution and its mitigation measures were organized on Wednesday at Natun Fatasil Town High School and Kaliram Baruah High School, Bharalumukh by the Guwahati Regional Office-I of the Pollution Control Board Assam (PCBA) in collaboration with the Inspector of Schools, Kamrup Circle, Kamrup (Metro) District Circle, stated a press release.

During these meetings, Senior Environmental Engineer-cum-Regional Officer of the Guwahati Regional Office-I of PCBA, Gokul Bhuyan spoke about air pollution, its causes, effects and mitigation measures. He encouraged the students to take initiative to take all possible measures, including tree plantation, to control air pollution and act as a responsible person to reduce air pollution in Guwahati city. The Resource Person, Dr Bijay Goswami, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, B Borooah College, also spoke about air pollution and its abatement. He mentioned various ways to fight air pollution.

Both the meetings were organised under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) of India. The principals of both the schools, Purabi Kalita, of Natun Fatasil Town High School and Kripanjali Kataki of Kaliram Baruah High School, emphasized on tree plantation and cycling to reduce air pollution. They appealed to the Government to take an initiative to construct cycle tracks in the city to promote cycling to reduce vehicular pollution.
