GUWAHATI: During this pandemic situation to create awareness about health and nutrition PIB Guwahati organised a webinar on Poshan Abhiyaan on Wednesday.

Poshan Abhiyaan has special focus on reducing under-nutrition and low birth weight in children, and anaemia in adolescent girls, pregnant women, lactating mothers as well as children. The 3rd Rashtriya Poshan Maah is being celebrated this month across the country. Taking part as a speaker in the webinar, Dr.Pranati Das, Professor and HoD of Food Science & Nutritions, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat said that strong immune system is the best defence against COVID-19, as long as the immune system is functioning normally, infection such as COVID-19 go unnoticed.

While deliberating on immunity and nutrition, she said that nutrition is essential for health and well-being at every stage of life. For holistic health benefits there is a need to have balanced meals which includes fresh fruits and vegetables, she added.

Har Gobinda Boro, SPMU- PoshanAbhiyaan, Assam gave a detailed briefing on the on-going campaign of the PoshanAbhiyan in Assam. He discussed about the Poshan Abhiyaan as aprogrammatic approach in addressing the life cycle issues of malnutrition. He said that malnutrition is a major challenge which hampers the growth of our country and government is implementing Poshan Abhiyaanto address the problem of malnutrition.

Samrat Bandopadhyay, Joint Director, PIB Guwahati in his welcome address said that Poshan Abhiyaan is an initiative by Government of India to improve nutritional status of children up to 6 years, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers. Pallab Chakraborty, Deputy Director, PIB Guwahati delivered the closing address in the webinar, stated a release.
