GUWAHATI: Poet Ilina Sinha has brought laurels to Assam when Poems India selected her as the "stand out performer" at the "Stage is yours (Poems India Poetry and Storytelling Showcase) – January" held online on Google Meet recently.
Poems India is a rapid growing art and literature community which provides broader exposure to the budding poets and storytellers of India. It works toward bringing the promising young poets and storytellers to the front through regular open-mics, language-specific curated events, workshops and digital content publishing.
The Stage is Yours is Poems India's monthly online curated showcase where selected poets are invited to recite best of their poems. This year, in January, over 200 poems were submitted. Among them 15 artistes – Surabhi Joshi, ShrushtiZaveri (Sexting redefined), Laraaib Ghazi (I can't write happy stories), Viplav, IlinaSinha (The language I breathe in), PradiptaSatpathy (The honest poem), Sagar Singh (Gosht), SanjanaNandkumar (Shame), AkshitaChaudhary (I need help), Siddhi Deshpande (What my poetry is?), Devansh Dixit, RanyaVaid (Tell me how), SonaliVerma (Avsaad), AnamZakiSiddiqui (TamashaNahin) and Ishita A (Living) – were handpicked. Among them IlinaSinha from Assam was selected as the stand out performer.
The poems of IlinaSinha – daughter of fiction writers Dr. Smiriti Kumar Sinha (Dean, Department of Engineering, Tezpur University) and SunandaSinha – speak volumes of the plight of endangered languages and species. Her utterances "We all need a place to belong" and "Home isn't always a place" make the plight of 'endangered ones' etched on sensitive readers' (audience) mind.
The Stage is Yours initiative is aligned with its vision to expose the promising talents to Indian readers and audiences. People from all over join the event to watch the tellers and poets reciting the best of their work.
