GUWAHATI, Aug 9: The Panbazar police arrested an advocate identified as Kishor Dahal Chetry (56) from the court premise here on Thursday allegedly for preparing a fake affidavit against a deceased woman named Sudharani Das.

According to a police source, accused Chetry prepared the fake affidavit by showing Sudharani Das as alive on behalf the deceased’s son Sanjay Das to get a No Objection Certificate (NOC) against a plot of land. Notably, Sudharani died in 2014. On the contrary, the affidavit certified that she was alive till 2017.

In this regard, a case (No 89/18 u/s 120 (B)/ 420/423 IPC) was registered at the Panbazar police station following a complaint lodged by the deceased’s son Sadhan Das in February. In connection with this fraudulent act, Sanjay Das and his wife Bonti Das had already been arrested earlier.

Notably, ever since the rejection of an interim bail petition by the Gauhati High Court, accused Chetry has been absconding to avoid arrest. However, as soon as he visited the court premise on Thursday to attend to one of his cases, the police arrested him immediately in the court premise itself. Meanwhile, the accused has been remanded to two-day police custody.
