‘Police-smuggler nexus a bone of contention at Srirampur’: AILTTA

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Sept 26: The All India Livestock Traders and Transporter Association (AILTTA) alleged that the nexus exists between smugglers and police has been becoming a bone of contention for the licensed cattle traders.

Talking to the reporters here on Wednesday, AILTTA Secretary Munna Saikia said that the legal and licensed livestock transporters are being harassed in different checkpoints, especially in Simolutapu Outpost, Srirampur where smugglers are given a free passage to transport the cattle. “Certain informal traders are illegally transporting cattle to Bangladesh with the mercy of police. For this, police receives a hefty amount,” Saikia said.

The AILTTA secretary further said, “We are often harassed by Police personnel as well as smugglers in different border points like Srirampur and Boxirhat.” Stating that despite having clearance from authorities concerned of the respective states but unable to do their business in the right way, Saikia maintained, “We are forced to bribe at all the check points.”
