GUWAHATI, July 27: Despite series of discussions and repeated submissions of memorandums to the Departments and Ministers concerned over the last couple of years, the demands raised by the Pratibandhi Suraksha Sanstha has been subsided by the State government. Their trust on Dispur has been rewarded with false commitment and extension of further promises for which hundreds of activists of the Sanstha staged a protest rally on Friday near Janata Bhawan to reiterate their long pending demands.

However, none of the ministers, lawmakers or officers from Dispur came out to hear their grievances. Literally, nobody is there to console them. Instead, Dispur engaged huge police forces on the street to brutally handle the protest. Hence, the police brutally dragged hundreds of protesters from the spot and drove them to Sonapur police station. The activists of the Sanstha also tried to stage a demonstration at Sonapur coming out to the street by breaking the police barricade. However, the cruelty of the police could take over protesters throughout the day.

Notably, 4019 backlog posts reserved for the specially abled has not been filled up despite several commitment made by the State government which has been the Sanstha’s primary demand. Moreover, Dispur has not initiated any measures to open designated College or University for the specially abled despite series of directives from the Centre.

Earlier, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced that the government will provide a one-time medical allowance of Rs 5,000 each to 4.5 lakh differently-abled persons in the state. Allegedly, none of the promises made by Dispur has been materialized.According to the activists of the Pratibandhi Suraksha Sanstha, altogether 21 demands raised by them have been enveloped by Dispur.
