GUWAHATI: Following the spike in COVID-19 cases here and its suburbs, all the popular and also tourist-destination spots in the 'Gateway to the Northeast' are presently closed. These include the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, Regional Science Centre, Guwahati Planetarium, State Zoo & Botanical Garden, Assam State Museum, and the Rabindra Bhawan among others.

Meanwhile only 50 per cent of the employees are attending the offices at these places.

An official of the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra at Panjabari here told The Sentinel, "The Kalakshetra has been closed for visitors until further orders from the authorities concerned."

Similarly a high official of the Regional Science Centre in Khanapara informed, "The Centre will remain closed for visitors from April 16 to May 16, 2021. If the COVID-19 situation across the State does not improve, the Centre will remain closed for a longer period."

An official of the Guwahati Planetarium at Uzan Bazar said, "The Planetarium shows were kept open subject to the observance of COVID-19 protocols till 2 pm. However for the last fortnight, there were no visitors here; hence, no shows were put up at the planetarium."

The State Zoo & Botanical Garden at Zoo Road has remained closed since April 26, informed authorities.

The Assam State Museum at Ambari has also remained closed since the State government issued the SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).

A high official of the Rabindra Bhawan also at Ambari said, "There has been no function at the Rabindra Bhawan for the last week."
