Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha, Assam (PSSA) observes black day

GUWAHATI: Amidst the festive Durga puja spirits high in the city, the Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha, Assam (PSSA) took to the streets on Saturday, marking their faces with black cloth from Dispur Last Gate to Ganesh Uddyan here in the city.

Secretary of the Sangstha, Nripen Malakar said that after the atrocities meted out towards the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) at Dispur Last Gate by the city police on October 5, 2018, the day has been marked as a black day forever for the PSSA.

“Last year, during the Assembly Sessions, when the PwD staged a mild protest in view of certain demands at Dispur Last Gate, we were ruthlessly beaten by the city police and publicly humiliated. Not only was our body but our esteem was also severely scarred. We approached the Chief Minister, the chief secretary and the Director General of Police (DGP) but not only have they failed to serve justice, even an investigation was conducted. On the holy eve of puja, we have laid our troubles in front of Durga maa and hope that justice is served,” said Malakar.
