GUWAHATI: The Pratibandhi Suraksha Sanstha, Assam (PSSA) on Wednesday staged a protest against the Transport Department for not giving reservation to the specially abled persons for various vacancies at the department.

PSSA president Nripen Malakar said that the State Level Police Recruitment Board (SLPRB) published an advertisement on July 15, 2020 to fill vacancies for various posts in the Transport Department.

Malakar pointed out that the advertisement mentioned about reservation in various categories but the four per cent reservation for the disabled candidates was not included.

"The PSSA had written a letter to the SLPRB and the Transport Department about the non inclusion of reservation for disabled persons to fill up the vacancies. As we came to know, the SLPRB on August 3 wrote a letter to the Commissionerate of Transport regarding the same. However, till date no step has been taken by the Commissionerate," Malakar added.

The PSSA demanded that the advertisement should be republished with mention of the reserved posts for the disabled candidates. It added that in the future the disabled candidates should get four per cent reservation for the vacant posts in the department.

The protest was attended by scores of PSSA activists who staged the demonstration in from of the Paribahan Bhawan, Khanapara. They submitted a memorandum to Commissioner of Transport and another copy was also submitted to the State Chief Secretary and the Social Welfare Minister.
