Pressurize Dispur On Promises Made: Martyrs’ Families To MLAs

GUWAHATI: The All Assam Martyrs-Victims’ Family Council (AAMVFC) members were seen meeting legislators on Friday with the plea of putting pressure on the government during the current Assembly to fulfil the promises it had made for them.

Council’s chief adviser Ashwini Kumar Mahanta said: “We oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. It has to be cancelled as it violates the Assam Accord. Soon after coming to power in 2016 this government took up a 100-day programme – jobs for 315 members of Agitation victim families. However, in the past three years, only five of them were given jobs. We want such jobs for the 310.”

Mahanta further said: “In 2000 the then State Government allocated us one bigha land for the Council. However, that land has been under encroachment. The government should make the land encroachment free and hand it over to us.”
