Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be the chief guest at the online convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-G), to be held on September 22. The Prime Minister will address the students virtually.

Union Minister of Education, Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank', and Minister of State for Education, Sanjay Dhotre will be the guests of honour. Assam Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal will be the special guest.

The convocation ceremony will be live-streamed on social media platforms YouTube and Facebook.

It needs mention here that the IIT Guwahati has created a virtual reality-based award distribution where the graduates can experience collecting a medal from the Director, from the comfort of their homes. Dr. Rajiv I Modi, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Guwahati, and Professor TG Sitharam, Director, IIT Guwahati, will address the gathering during the virtual convocation.

Notably, IIT Bombay, IIT Gandhinagar are a few of the institutions which held their convocations in the virtual earlier mode this year.

It is worth mentioning here that a portion of the IIT-G campus is being used as a COVID Care Centre.
