Private firm employee arrested, cash recovered

GFUWAHATI, June 27: The Bhangagarh police on Tuesday arrested a private firm employee identified as Rahul Kalita (23) from his rented house at Kundil Nagar near Basistha and apparently recovered a sum of Rs 16,40,470 from his possession. The alleged offender, Rahul was an employee of Smart Value Products And Services Limited located at Sixmile, VIP Road.

According to police source, Rahul was sent to deposit a sum of Rs 19,33,885 in cash in one of the company’s accounts at the Axis Bank, near post office, GS Road branch on Monday. On 3:20 pm, he called up his manager Partha Pratim Bora from his cell phone informing that some miscreants had kidnapped him with the cash showing knives and apparently abandoned somewhere at Jagiroad after looting the entire amount. In respond, the manager instructed Rahul to immediately inform the incident to Jagiroad police. As the incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Bhangagarh police, Jagiroad police referred the case there on the same day.

After registering a case, (No 106/18) on Monday, the Bhangagarh police started interrogating Rahul. Vowing to the rigorous grilling of the police, Rahul confessed his plot behind the episode in front of the police. Following his confession, a team of Bhangagarh police recovered a sum of Rs 16,40,470 from the offender’s rented house on Tuesday. In his confession, Rahul informed the police that he committed the crime to repay his late father’s bank debt.
