Prof of Gauhati University Ankuran Dutta joins as Director, SVCC, Colombo

GUWAHATI: Ankuran Dutta, Professor and head of the department of Communication and Journalism, Gauhati University, has joined as the Director of Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Colombo, Sri Lanka in the diplomatic rank of First Secretary of Indian Foreign Service at the Indian High Commission in Colombo.

Prof. Dutta will serve the nation by promoting India's soft power and cultural diplomacy in Sri Lanka, which is strategically critical for India. Prof Dutta is the second person from Assam to head any Indian Cultural Centre abroad under Indian Council for Cultural Relations of the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India after renowned author Arup Kumar Dutta who served as the Director of the Indian Cultural Centre in Indonesia from 2004 to 2008.

Prof Dutta, a renowned media educator and health right activist, will serve in this capacity as a diplomat for the next three years in different places in Sri Lanka. He was received by the Indian High Commission protocol at the Bandaranaike International Airport Colombo on Monday and he met the officials of the Indian mission on Tuesday.
