Prohibitory orders imposed for bursting fireworks near Guwahati Refinery

GUWAHATI: In order to prevent any unforeseen incidents at the Guwahati Refinery during the upcoming festival of lights, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Central Guwahati Police District has prohibited the usage of any fireworks or firecrackers in the vicinity of several key installations in the city.

Exercising the powers under Section 144 of the CrPC, DCP Amitabh Basumatary passed the orders to prohibit the use of fireworks and the bursting of crackers within a 500-metre radius of the Guwahati Refinery, Noonmati, Oil India Pumping Station, Satgaon, and Oil Pipelines within Central Guwahati Police District (CGPD). This decision was taken in view of the large quantities of highly volatile and inflammable petroleum products in store at these key installations, the safety and security of these installations, and the residents in the vicinity of these installations.

Further, the use of fireworks and the bursting of crackers have been prohibited within the silence zones of Central Guwahati Police District. This order comes into force with immediate effect, and any person contravening it shall be punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, as mentioned in the order. Anyone who has any grievances regarding this order can approach the DCP to file their objections in writing.
