Proposed land bank to take over closed PSU land: Patowary

Guwahati, March 15: Assam Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary today stated on the floor of the Assam Legislative Assembly that virtually all the Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) under the State Government have closed down. He informed the House that so far as the properties of the closed PSUs, primarily land, are concerned, the same will be taken over by the proposed land bank to be set up by the Industries and Commerce department of the State. The Minister was replying to a query on the issue raised by AGP MLA Pabindra Deka.
Further, raising the issue of Assam Syntex Ltd which is located at Tihu and has closed down, Deka asked if there was any move by the Government to revive the thread mill. In his reply Industries and Commerce Minister Patowary said that the mill had already closed down in 2008. The Minister further informed that the employees had av"ailed the facility of Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) and that on this count Rs 18.82 crore has been paid to the employees. As of now, he informed, that the mill has not a single employee.
