GUWAHATI: The left parties of the State have expressed their support against the Bharat bandh called by various farmer unions to protest against the Centre's 'anti-farmer policies'.

In a statement, Communist Party of India (CPI) (Marxist) State office bearer IshfaqurRehman said, "The BJP (BharatiyaJanata Party)-led Central government passed three anti-farmer bills in the last parliamentary session. Demanding the withdrawal of the Act, farmers from various States are staging protest in the national capital. Despite the resentment, the Centre has not withdrawn the Act. Due to this on December 8, farmers' associations have declared Bharat bandhunitedly." In Assam the four left parties that are supporting the bandhare – CPI (M), Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist), and Revolutionary Communist Party of India.

Further, Rehman opined that along with the farmers of the rest of the country, the ones in Assam will be badly affected.

If the agriculture sector is handed over to the corporate houses than it will be a threat to the food security of the State, he stressed.

"The BJP in their vision documents stated that they will provide MSP (Minimum Support Price) to the farmers' produce. However, after coming to power they didn't keep their promise," Rehman lamented. He appealed to the people to support the bandh.
