GUWAHATI: The local people of Chandrapur, on Friday, carried out a series of massive protests continued against the move of the GMC (Gauhati Municipal Corporation) to shift the dumping ground from Boragaon to Chandrapur.
Around 300 residents of Chandrapur carried out a human chain protest on the Chandrapur-Narengi main road. The protestors carried placards which read 'No Dumping Ground at Chandrapur', 'No waste management project at Chandrapur' and 'Assam Sorcar Hai Hai!'.
Mentionably, various types of protests have been continuing under the banner of 'Dumping Ground Birodhi Mancha, Chandrapur' since June 28.
Talking to the media, convenor of the organization Nitul Kalita said, "It is strange that the authorities concerned are going against the wish of the masses. We condemn the move and also the silence of the government in this regard."
He added, "Tomorrow (Saturday), we will organize awareness meetings against the government's move in all the villages within Chandrapur."
