Punjab National Bank celebrates 128th Foundation Day in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Punjab National Bank, the bank founded by eminent freedom fighter Lalalajpat Rai, currently the second largest Public Sector Bank of the country, celebrated its 128th Foundation Day on April 12 across the country. PNB Zonal office for North East situated in Guwahati also celebrated this auspicious occasion by organizing a Customer Meet at Food Villa, Panbazar. Eminent personalities from different parts of the State, employees of the bank and their families participated in the meet, stated a press release.

The programme started with singing of the State Anthem O Mor Apunar Dex. After customary greetings to the customers present, the General Manager and Zonal Head of PNB North East, Shio Shankar Singh addressed the gathering, speaking passionately about the golden heritage of Punjab National Bank being the first Swadeshi bank born out of the country's struggle for Independence. Singh emphasized ensuring 100 per cent financial inclusion across the Northeast by bringing the digital banking facility to all the customers. The General Manager appealed to the bank officers to commit themselves to the service of the nation by dedicatedly working towards ensuring accessible banking for all and thereby, help building a truly Atmanirbhar India. He also paid rich homage to the founder of PNB, Punjab Keshari Lala Lajpat Rai in acknowledgment of his sacrificesin establishing country's first Swadeshi bank.During the event, the Bank also distributed Education Loan Sanction Letters to meritorious students in a bid to help them in pursuing higher studies.

The Chancellor of University of Science &Technology, Meghalaya, Mahbubul Haque, Dr Hitesh Bordoloi, Leena Deka Borbhuyan, JyotishTalukdar, Natasha Das and many other renowned personalities graced the occasion with their presence and expressed their deep satisfaction with the bank's services over the years.

To celebrate Rongali Bihu, a cultural programme was also organized alongside the Customer Meet where officials from Guwahati and Kamrup Circle offices and Zonal Office participated in a group Bihu dance competition.
