GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asserted on Friday that the State Government is working on steps to neutralize all radical elements which are active in Assam.
Sarma said during an interaction with the media that not only in Batadroba, but radical elements have become active in some other areas of the State as well and their goal is to cause destabilization in society. He added that the Government has adequate input regarding this and pockets where radical elements are active are already under the radar of the police.
Meanwhile, the Mangaldai police today arrested Alauddin, the main accused in the Batadroba police station attack case. Another prime accused, a woman named Josnara Begum, is still absconding.
Police sources said that Intelligence reports reveal that covert activities are underway to mobilize radical forces in certain areas of Lower Assam and Central Assam. The sources said that some fundamentalists from Bangladesh and other places frequently visit sar and religious minority-dominated areas of the State to fan communal fervour. Last year, a moulavi from Bangladesh was supposed to visit the Barpeta district to attend a religious event, but the State Government did not permit him to do so because he has links with radical forces, they added.
