GUWAHATI: Rahul Gautam, an officer of Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers from UPSC's 1985 batch joined as the Additional General Manager of N.F. Railway recently. Prior to joining he was working as the Principal Chief Electrical Engineer of South Eastern Railway, Kolkata.

Gautam who completed his BE (Electrical) from the University of Roorkee started his career in the South Central Railway, Secunderabad. He worked for 8 years in manufacturing of Diesel/Electrical locomotives at the BLW, Varanasi and also underwent training in USA, Canada and Germany for Technology transfer of 4000 HP Diesel locomotives.

He has also worked in various other zones of Indian Railways in different capacities such as Deputy General Manager (General) of North Eastern Railway, Gorakhpur; Chief Electrical Distribution Engineer & Chief Electrical Loco Engineer at West Central Railway, Jabalpur; Additional Divisional Railway Manager of Adra Division of South Eastern Railway; Divisional Railway Manager of the Raipur division of South East Central Railway and Principal Chief Safety Officer of Eastern Railway, Kolkata. During his tenure Eastern Railway got the Railway Board Safety Shield award in the year 2018 after a gap of 25 years. He also has experience of work in various PSUs like IRCON and DFCCIL. During this period he went to China for Type Test of Transformers used in 2x25 KV systems, stated a release.
