Railway Protection Force busts oil-siphoning cartel from railway yard

* Thieves caught extracting oil from a diesel engine

* Ganja worth lakhs seized in two separate operations

GUWAHATI: Personnel of the NFR (Northeast Frontier Railways) RPF (Railway Protection Force) arrested three persons involved in various types illegal activities in the railway premises.

Acting on a tipoff, personnel from the RPF Post in New Tinsukia conducted a check at the New Tinsukia station yard during the night of August 6 and 7, 2020. During this checking, the RPF team detected extraction of HSD (High Speed Diesel) oil from a stabled engine in the yard and apprehend the three accused people. The personnel also seized two plastic cans — one containing about 25 litres HSD oil and another containing 20 litres HSD oil which were extracted from stabled engine No.13017 at line No 7 of the yard.

Based on the statement of the arrested person, the RPF team conducted a raid at Sripuria Gaon near LC Gate No. 700 area and managed to arrest the receiver of this stolen diesel. They also seized about 10 litres of HSD oil from the person. The value of these recovered items is Rs. 4,400 approximately. A case U/S 3a of RP(UP) Act was registered.

Meanwhile in anohter incident, on receipt of intelligence report the RPF team of Alipurduar division carreid out a search operation in train No 02378 DN at New Coochbehar station. During this operation, they checked a person namely Netish Biswas, travelling to Sealdah in Coach No - B4 of the train. They found a neatly packed parcel in his bag. It contained ganja of about 18 kg and valued at approximatley Rs 1,80,000.

Earlier also on August 4, the RPF team of Alipurduar division conducted a search operation on platform no 3 at New Coochbehar station. During this operation, the RPF team seized about 13.1 kg ganja from two persons and a valid railway journey ticket having PNR no-674-2150868 by train no-05956 DN. The value of the seized ganja was approximately Rs 1, 30,000. The arrested persons have been identified as Prashanta Saha, (19 years of age) and Amar Barman (18 years of age).

In both the cases, FIRs were lodged under NDPS (Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act-1985. The accused along with the seized materials were handed over to OC/GRP/New Coochbehar, an NF Railway release said.
