Railway Protection Force recovers narcotics worth Rs 35.49 lakh in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of NF Railway has successfully intercepted the ways of smuggling of contraband goods and recovered narcotics and cannabises valued at Rs 35.49 lakh during May 20 to 26, 2019.

In one such case on May 20, 2019, a team of RPF based at Guwahati recovered 500 grams morphine in plastic package valued at Rs 35 lakh (approx). The packets were thrown away by some unidentified persons from the Train No 12423 DN (Rajdhani Express) while the train was leaving Guwahati Railway Station. Later, the unclaimed morphine was handed over to Government Railway Police/Guwahati and a case was registered. In another case on May 21, 2019, an RPF team of Hojai under Lumding Division recovered four packets cannabis weighing about seven kgs while conducting a routine check in Train No 12526 (Dibrugarh-Kolkata Express).The recovered cannabises were valued at Rs 49 thousand (approx), a press release stated.
