Rapido, Ola, Uber 2 wheeler taxi drivers on indefinite strike demanding fare hike in Guwahati
Guwahati: An indefinite strike alert for the Guwahatians as the two-wheeler taxi drivers called for a strike in Guwahati from December 14. The daily commuters using the two-wheeler bike services faced a problem early on Monday morning. The riders of different bike services like Ola, Uber, Rapido are staging the protest against the management for taking a high rate of commission despite lowering the fares.
The Rapido, Uber, Ola drivers protest against the management as they are not earning much from their work. The commission taken from the drivers has been increased to 30% from Rs 4, which was earlier taken as a commission from the Rapido drivers. This has led to the Rapido driver strike.
Adding more to the stress of the drivers, the ride fares have been lowered even after the increasing fuel prices. The rides which used to cost Rs 50 earlier have now been lowered to almost half of the previous fare.
Along with Rapido, Uber and Ola drivers have also joined in for the indefinite strike. They have further complained that there is no physical office of Rapido, Uber and Ola in Guwahati. The Ola and Uber closed its physical offices two months back, while the Rapido office was closed a month ago. Since there is no presence of a physical office, the drivers and associates of these services cannot talk to the management directly.
The four-wheeler drivers will also join the Rapido, Ola, Uber driver strike from December 15 if their demands are not met by the concerned authorities.
The regular commuters using these services have been facing difficulty since today morning as a few feel it is unsafe to use bus services during this pandemic.
