Remove Rupam Goswami from Party Post: ITSSA to CM Sonowal

Staff Reporter

Guwahati: Convening Committee of the Indigenous Tribal Sahitya Sabhas, Assam (ITSSA) has demanded that State BJP spokesperson Rupam Goswami be removed from his party post within 48 hours for making a historically false statement against tribal people. On this count, the Chief Minister has been apprised of the situation and the demand of the ITSSA.

Secretary general of the organization Kamala Kanta Mushahary has in a statement said, “On Oct 30 BJP spokesperson Rupam Goswami said that the Bodos and the Rabhas came from Bangladesh. We vehemently condemn this statement made by Rupam Goswami. Around the time the Government is working towards granting citizenship to lakhs of Bangladeshi nationals, both Hindus and Muslims, in the state, Goswami is involved in the game of projecting the sons of the soil like the Bodos and the Rabhas as Bangladeshi nationals.

In the process, the BJP is working on a game-plan of ushering aggressive chauvinism in the state. I challenge Goswami to prove within 48 hours that the Bodos and the Rabhas came from Bangladesh. And if he fails in the task, the Chief Minister should remove him from the party post. In case the CM fails in responding to our demand positively, the tribal communities will in a democratic manner give a befitting reply to the party.

Significantly, the Indigenous Tribal Sahitya Sabhas, Assam comprises of Bodo Sahitya Sabha , Karbi Sahitya Sabha, Missing Sahitya Sabha, Tewa Sahitya Sabha, Deori Sahitya Sabha, Garo Sahitya Sabha, and Dimasa Sahitya Sabha.
