Pankaj Thakur, a renowned author passed away this morning at his residence at Ambikagiri Nagar, Guwahati.

He breathed his last at 76 years.

Previously, he also worked for The Sentinel Assam English daily and contributed majorly to the growth of the newspaper with his vast experience of knowledge and literature.

Meanhwile, Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma has condoled his demise.

Born in Dergaon, Pankaj Thakur did his primary schooling in his native and later on completed his graduation from Cotton College, followed by which he did his Masters in Economics from Gauhati University.

In his professional career, Pankaj Thakur retired as the branch head of TATA Motors formerly known as TELCO in Guwahati.

With a flair and love for literature right from his school days, Thakur authored a handy collection of books which was well received by the readers. However, his book translation was widely recognised and for which he was bestowed with the Sahitya Akademi Award for Translation.

Since, translation was his real forte, following his passion, he translated titles in Assamese consistedĀ of- Gana Satra, Bidisna Baghjai, Mahanayak (Marathi) among others.

He also edited quite a few magazines as well of which the latest being in the Times of India Group's "Amar Samay".

He has left behind his wife, his son and two brothers along with a host of relatives and friends.
