GUWAHATI: The mortal remains of renowned artist Neel Pawan Baruah were consigned to flames in the presence of hundreds of admirers and fans at Nabagraha crematorium in Guwahati with state honour today. His nephew Sujay Baruah lighted the pyre.

The body of the artist was kept at his Saurav Nagar residence (Basundhara Kala Niketan) in the Beltola area last night. Hundreds of people paid him their last respects.

The funeral procession started from his residence this morning amidst the participation of thousands of people. They took the body first to the Government College of Art and Craft at Basistha were many people and art lovers paid their last respects to him. They took the body to the Guwahati Artists' Guild where also people and artists paid to him their last respects. The body was then taken to Rabindra Bhawan and Swahid Nyas before taking it to Nabagraha crematorium. The fans and admirers of the artist urged the State Government to preserve his creative works.

Meanwhile, Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Borah said, "The State government will do all to preserve the creative works of the artist in cooperation with his family members."
