GUWAHATI: The Cottonian Jagaran Mancha (CJM) has appealed to the State government to look into the matter of the coal mining in Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary.

The National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) has given green signal to Coal India Limited for extraction of coal in 98.59 hectares of land belonging to Dehing Patkai at Saleki. Concerned over the damage likely to be inflicted on the sanctuary, the student community is raising its voice. The Mancha has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister. It said that the student community of Cotton University opposes the move as that will damage the sanctuary. It has appealed to the government to rethink on the issue.
