GUWAHATI: Revenue collection of Assam's Excise Department showed a marked increase in December, 2021 compared to the previous eight months, while the overall amount of collected revenue during this period stood at Rs. 1,321.47 crore.
According to official sources, the Excise Department collected revenue to the tune of Rs. 201.12 crore in December. The amounts collected in the previous months were: Rs. 166.15 crore in November, Rs. 176.24 in October, Rs. 163.96 in September, Rs. 141.47 crore in August, Rs. 109.74 crore in July, Rs. 90.91 crore in June, Rs. 98.72 crore in May and Rs. 173.16 crore in April.
The sources attributed the spike in December to the 15% hike in retail prices of alcohol brands which with effect from December 10, 2021. On the other hand, the comparatively low collection in May and June last year was attributed to the situation created by the COVID-19 pandemic. The sources claimed that revenue collection will increase even more in the remaining months of the current Financial Year.
