RGS Intertiol Open Chess from October 18

GUWAHATI, Oct 7: The 2nd edition of the RGS Intertiol Open Rating Chess tourment will get under way at Royal Global School, Betkuchi, from October 18. The tourment carries cash award around of Rs 5 lakh where the champion will receive Rs 1 Lakh. Addressing a media gathering Anubha Goyal, Principal, Royal Global School, hoped that like the previous year this time too the meet would be a grand success. This year around 250 participants from India and abroad are expected to take part in the tourment.

Meanwhile Assam Chess prodigy Shahil Dey, who will represent India in the World Youth Chess Championship in U-8 category, was felicitated by the All Assam Chess Association Adhoc Committee during the media briefing. The association also handed over a cheque of Rs 10,000 to Shahil. Laishram Imocha, an employee of Oil India Limited, Duliajan who has been selected as the coach of the Indian team, was also felicitated in the meet.

Apart from Goyal the media briefing was attended by Mridul Kumar Mahanta, Chairman, All Assam Chess Association Adhoc Committee, Biswajit Bharadwaj, Secretary, All Assam Chess Association Adhoc Committee, ndan Buragohain, Secretary, Assam Chess Club and Anjan Jyoti Das, President, Assam Chess Club respectively.
