GUWAHATI: Less than a week after he joined the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) on April 17, former Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora was on Saturday appointed as the Assam State unit president of the AITC by party chairperson and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

A press release issued in this regard by the AITC stated that Bora's appointment as State unit president is in line with the fact that Mamata Banerjee "envisions vast change for the furtherance and advancement of Assam and its people with AITC at the forefront."

Bora, on his part, tweeted: "My gratitude to AITC chairperson Smt Mamata Banerjee and national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee for showing faith in me and appointing me as State president of AITC. I will continue to work for the betterment of our State with the best of my ability."
