PIL over division of village due to new railway track
STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has been apprised that the Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway and the State's Revenue Department held a meeting recently to resolve the problems faced by the residents of the Ujanpara village of Salmara Part-II in the Bongaigaon district due to the laying of a railway track and it was decided therein to construct a connecting road in the area on two bighas of land.
The court was informed that if the existing two roads are connected within a short distance, the problem of the villagers of Ujanpara can be resolved. The court was further informed by the Additional Senior Government Advocate, Assam that appropriate proceedings for acquiring the land required for the purpose will be initiated within a period of 10 days from Wednesday (today).
The Senior Standing Counsel of NF Railway apprised the High Court that a proposal has already been forwarded to the department concerned of the State Government.
The court thereupon instructed the Additional Senior Government Advocate, Assam to apprise it about the progress made in the matter, particularly with regard to initiation of proceedings for acquiring the land required for the purpose, at the next date of hearing.
It may be mentioned that 44 residents of the Ujanpara area had filed a PIL (85/2020) alleging that due to the laying of a railway track in the Salmara Part-II/Ujanpara area, the village has been divided into two parts - northern part and southern part. Connectivity between the two parts has been also disrupted because of non-provision of any manned level crossing.
