GUWAHATI, May 15: After going through a stretched schedule throughout the day, are you planning to have a comfortable sleep? Are you preparing for sightseeing in the next holiday just to escape from the routine workload? Wait! Think twice. Your bike, vehicle or the cash preserved along with some ornaments may get robbed in your absence. Either we became a victim, silent spectator or a helpless listener of someone’s painful sharing of such pillage act.

The severity of the trend is spreading so wider that some professional miscreants may knock your door at any point of time even in your presence equipped with arms to ransack your properties. Because, it has no more been the traditional way of robbing an asset. Like any other trade, a section of people who are resorting to such robust job are also equally training themselves to rob you of your belongings with some sophisticated weapons. Moreover, they are not only targeting individual residents, but also institutions mostly, the ATMs, jewelry, organized and unorganized financial institutions, cashboxes of various enterprises, besides individuals and their possessions like bikes, cars etc.

Besides all these, what is disturbing us more is the fact that, according to a report accessed from the Assam Police it is revealed that the number of cases related to robbery has been perpetually increasing over the last decade across the State. The report highlighted that in 2017 alone, there were at least 1,088 robbery cases registered across Assam. According to the report, the year-wise occurrences of robbery incidents are, 532 in 2006, 464 in 2007, 568 in 2008, 680 in 2009, 662 in 2010, 841 in 2011, 907 in 2012, 933 in 2013, 996 in 2014, 934 in 2015, 939 in 2016 and 1,088 in 2017.

Over the decade, the State has witnessed a sharp rise of robbing cases from 2011 to 2014. However, there was a little decrease of the figure in 2015 and 2016. But the turnaround in 2017 has put us in a great melancholy as the intensification does indicate that we may fall under the culprits’ radar at any point of time.
