GUWAHATI: The week-long inspections against unruly city buses and other passenger-carrying vehicles in Guwahati by 12-15 enforcement teams have yielded the seizure of 85 city buses, leading to registration of 217 cases and the realization of Rs 5.71 lakh as fines.

According to an enforcement officer, the teams will continue to conduct such inspection. "The bus owners have been lending their support to our drive, and we want the public to lend us similar support. If commuters don't stop buses between regular bus stops the bus crews can give up the practice of stopping their buses here and there. The drive is aimed at making the use of city buses by commuters a hassle-free affair. If city buses run smoothly, that will help the public only," the official said. Another field staff of the DTO said, "As many as five city buses were seized on Thursday."
