GUWAHATI: A Russian citizen named Alexender, who is associated with ISCON Mayapur, mentioned that a man named Ashish from Dibrugarh had duped him of his money and approached the Dispur Police station.

Talking to the media, Alexender mentioned that he had visited India seeking spiritual growth before the Russia-Ukraine war started, for which he was unable to return home and managed to stay at the Howrah station. He met with Ashish in Kolkata when he was planning to go to Ranchi. He mentioned that Ashish was very friendly in the beginning and even spent a lot of money on him, pointing out an approximate amount of Rs 18000 and trying to find a place for him to stay in Assam.

He mentioned that thereafter, his mother had transferred Rs 11000 into the account of Ashish. But thereafter, there was some conflict between them, and Alexender demanded his money back. In return, Ashish demanded the money that he had spent on him. Unwilling to settle that debt, Alexender approached the Dispur police station, requesting help regarding getting the money back as well as arranging transportation back to Kolkata.

He also added that he has overstayed his visa in India, even after multiple extensions in the past, and lacks the funds to return home. He also mentioned that he has not approached the Russian Consulate regarding the incident or his stay beyond the visa period in India.
