Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad demands restoration of Old Pension Scheme

Opposes government's directive to display photographs of all teachers in classrooms

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) has opposed the State Government's directive to heads of education institutions to display photographs of all teachers in all classrooms.

SAKP president Prodeep Dutta and secretary general in-charge Shyamanta Das said in a press statement, "The names, photographs, qualifications etc. of teachers are already displayed in the offices of the respective educational institutions. This apart, when a teacher goes to a classroom to teach, he is physically present before the students. There is a direct interaction between the teacher and students. Under such circumstances, the directive to display the photographs of all teachers in classrooms beats logic."

SAKP demanded cancellation of this directive. The Parishad also extended support to the cease work agitation called by the All Assam Government NPS Employees' Association on Monday in support of the demand for the restoration of the OPS (Old Pension Scheme).

SAKP president Prodeep Dutta and secretary general in-charge Shyamanta Das said, "The National Pension System (NPS) was implemented by the Central Government in 2004 and the Assam Government implemented the NPS in February, 2005. When the NPS was implemented in Assam, SAKP had opposed it tooth-and-nail. We had said that the NPS would prove to be a suicidal scheme. Today our prediction has come true and hence, there have been protests against NPS acrosss the country." They added that SAKP would extend support to the cease work agitation called by the All Assam Government NPS Employees' Association on Monday to demand roll-back of the NPS and restoration of the Old Pension Scheme.
