GUWAHATI: The Assam Government employees under Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) staged a state-wise protest on Monday, reiterating their demand for the rollback of the National Pension System (NPS) and restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). The strike took place at every district headquarters. In Guwahati, the protest was conducted at Chachal under the Guwahati Zila Karmachari Parishad.
SAKP president Dwipen Sarma said, "Our main demands include the restoration of the OPS instead of the NPS (National Pension System). For every state government employee, there should be a free health service scheme, to increase the earned leave of the teachers, prepare service rules for every department, create headmaster posts for primary schools, and junior engineers of various departments should be granted promotion after the creation of ex-cadre posts for them. The school's amalgamated teachers' posts should be elevated; all government employees should be given fixed travel allowances; a compassionary allowance; and increased hill allowances.
In today's programme various government employee associations supported the protest.
