GUWAHATI: "State Government employees are today working in an environment of fear and anxiety. They are facing pressure and harassment by high-level officers. These officers want to alienate the employees from the common public to promote their vested interests. This work system must end and government employees must be given security and a congenial atmosphere to work," said All Assam Head of the Department Ministerial Officers' Association president Gunaram Gogoi.

In a statement, Gogoi said that the All Assam Head of the Department Ministerial Officers' Association and the Sadao Asom Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) would now be working together for the welfare of government employees and to safeguard their interests. This decision was taken at a joint meeting of the two organizations held on November 12, 2021.

Gogoi cited the example of the incident which took place on November 1, 2021, where then Additional Commissioner of Transport and present Joint Secretary, Transport Department, Sadnek Singh allegedly misbehaved with and physically assaulted an employee of the department in the office premises of the Paribahan Bhavan, Khanapara. "After this incident, employees staged a protest on November 2, November 3 and November 8. SAKP and other organizations had also extended support to this protest. The employees called off the protest following assurances from the State Transport Minister and the Commissioner of Transport that action would be taken against the erring officer. However, till now no action has been taken against Sablek Singh," said Gogoi.

He further said that if the authorities concerned failed to take any action against Sadnek Singh by November 18, a protest programme would be launched from November 22. "Sadnek Singh must be removed from the Transport Department," he said.
