Sahakar Bharati Assam observed National Cooperative Week at Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati city committee of Sahakar Bharati Assam observed National Cooperative Week at the auditorium of Prakashan Bharati, RGB Road, Guwahati recently.

Various cooperative personalities of the city attended the occasion. The programme was conducted by JayantaSarma, the president of Guwahati city committee of SahakarBharati Assam. Eminent personality and retired Principal of Pragjyotish College, who was the chief guest, inaugurated the programme with lighting an earthen lamp. In the inaugurating speech DayanandaPathak mentioned that almost three hundred years ago the Xatradhikar of BarpetaXatra conceptualized the idea of cooperative society. Explaining the objects of the meeting the secretary of Guwahati city committee, BiswajitKakati of SahakarBharati Assam hopes that observance of National Cooperative Week will increase the importance and necessity of cooperative societies in the changing times. On the other hand, while shading some light on the cooperative movements, advocate Bhaben Singh Basumatary, the state secretary of SahakarBharati Assam, said that taking part in the cooperative is a fundamental and constitutional right. The working president of SahakarBharati Assam, SurendraNathKalita explained about the Assam Healthcare Cooperative Society Ltd and NagarikSamabay Bank formed in the cooperative sector. He also emphasized the formation of a women cooperative bank. Retired Deputy Registrar of cooperative societies and vice president of SahakarBharati Assam, JagadishSarma attended the programme as distinguished speaker. He mentioned in his speech that with the amendment of Assam State Cooperative Act, 2007 interventions of the government in Cooperative societies were reduced which resulted in giving it a new dimension. NilotpalGohain, the Assistant Registrar of cooperative societies, Guwahati also graced the function with his presence, a press release said.
