
GUWAHATI: The Sattriya Kendra and the Sangeet Natak Akademi, North East Centre, Guwahati, the two centres of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, jointly organized a programme on the occasion of World Music Day on June 21 at its premises at Panjabari, Guwahati.
The programme was inaugurated with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the eminent personalities and renowned artistes Snehalata Das, Sharodi Saikia, Dr. Anil Saikia, and Bidyut Mishra. The programme started with a Bargeet recital by Sasanka Kalita of Guwahati. Artistes of Swaranjali, Guwahati, namely Dipshikha Deka, Nirmali Das, and Purvarag Goswami presented songs of Bishnu Rabha, Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, Parvati Prasad Barua, and Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. An orchestra of folk music was presented by Dilip Hira and his group. The programme was concluded with the Tokari Geet performance by Hirak Jyoti Sarma and his group. Arup Bordoloi, the Project Director of both the centres of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, delivered the welcome address for the event. The programme was compered by Namrata Sarma and was also presented live on the official Facebook page of Sangeet Natak Akademi. Senior artistes from the field of music like Satya Krishna Misra and Tarun Kalita were also present at the event, among other guests and invitees.
In the morning hours, a Yoga session was also held at the performance hall of the centre on the occasion of International Day of Yoga, and the session was conducted under Bitomoni Goswami, a press release said.
