Sarbananda Sonowal Lauds Narendra Modi For Boosting NE Growth

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the first Prime Minister of the country who discovered the inherent potential of the Northeast and has immensely boosted the momentum of growth in the region. Sarbananda Sonowal made this observation while taking part at a function organized by a TV channel at Mumbai today. Sonowal took part in a panel discussion on the ‘Role of Indian States in surging India’ along with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the Summit.

Chief Minister Sonowal said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi gives special attention to the Northeast and under his visionary leadership, there has been a surge in implementation of development programmes in all sectors, including roadways, railways, waterways and internet technology. “Prime Minister Modi ji has brought the Central Government to doorstep of the people of Northeast and has directed each of the Union Government Ministers to visit the region in every fifteen days to monitor and speed up execution of projects,” he added.

Stating that the development narrative of Northeast initiated by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee with the establishment of DONER Ministry has further been accelerated under the present government, the Chief Minister said that the Union Government has helped the states of the region to realize their inherent potential. He, moreover, said that the Congress party which ruled the region for most part of the independent India treated the region as states dependent on Central subsidies and neglected its development.

Moreover saying illegal migration as a national problem, the Chief Minister termed it a threat to national security. “Assam Accord was signed in 1985 with an aim to detect and deport illegal migrants. However, the Congress Government which was in power for most of the period after signing the Accord didn’t take up any significant steps for settling the issue”, he said. Further informing that though the Manmohan Singh-led Union Government took step for NRC updation, no significant headway was made. He also said that presently under the supervision of the Supreme Court NRC updation process in going on expeditiously and this will significantly facilitate detection of the illegal foreigners.

Sarbananda Sonowal said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi presents before the nation the avowed goal of ‘Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat’ and this has greatly boosted cooperative federalism in the country. The Chief Minister emphatically said that the States are today equal partners of the national development. He also averred that NITI Aayog initiatives lends positive impact in the development of the states and boosts their confidence. Sonowal also said that the Global Investors Summit in Guwahati led to the signing of more than 200 MoUs with investment commitment of Rs. 79,000 crore. He also said that execution of industrial projects worth Rs. 10,000 crore have already begun in the state.
