Sashastra Seema Bal organizes awareness camp on cancer in Guwahati city

GUWAHATI: Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Frontier Headquarters Guwahati organized an awareness camp for breast, cervical and tobacco-induced cancer in collaboration with the D. Bhubaneswar Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) at the Games Village here on Wednesday under the aegis of SANDIKSHA of Frontier Headquarters of SSB Guwahati. Around 120 women (including wives and SSB Mahila jawans) participated in this awareness camp, stated a press release.

Dr Salinder Kaur, Deputy Inspector General (Medical) of Frontier Headquarters of SSB Guwahati coordinated the whole event and at the very outset she explained that cancer is one of the most dreaded diseases in India and the disease needs to be tackled at the root level. She also spoke about the ways to control common cancers among women.

Harpreet Sharma, president of SANDIKSHA, appreciated and lauded the efforts of DIG (Medical) and her team in organizing this awareness camp for the benefit of wives and Mahila jawans of SSB.

A team of doctors from BBCI conducted screening of the participating women and provided required consultation and guidance.

It is pertinent to mention that this cancer awareness camp has been organized under the aegis of 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsava' commemorating 75 years of India's Independence. This project, 'programme to control common cancers among women in North and North-East India', has been planned by Tata Memorial Centre, Centre for Cancer Epidemiology (TMC-CCE) under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. .
