GUWAHATI: Physical classes from Class I will resume in all educational institutions from Tuesday. According to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) issued by the government, particular days have been allotted for particular classes to refrain congestion of too many students in an institution's premises.

Prasanna Bora, the Inspector of Schools for Kamrup (metro), said that the SOP issued by the government have to be followed strictly. "Use of face masks and sanitisers have been made mandatory, as a health advisory. Social distancing practices are also strictly advised," said the Inspector of Schools, Kamrup (metro). He added, "I will personally visit some schools tomorrow to supervise and authorities have been already engaged to ensure social health of students.

According to the SOP, students' attendance is not compulsory and the consent of parents is a must.

Physical classes for classes I, II and III will be held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The students of classes IV and V standards will have their classes on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Students of classes VI to VIII will have physical classes on every alternate day and Class IX students will have physical classes from October 1 on a day-to-day basis.

A section cannot have more than 30 students. The government has asked the heads of educational institutions to devise proper time management. Online classes will continue if needed. Deputy Commissioners will form task forces to monitor if the schools follow the SOP. The SOP does not allow any meetings and cultural functions on school premises.

All teachers and other staff members need to take both doses of vaccines. Pregnant women and women with children below three years of age among the staff members need not attend schools. They need to do their duty from home. The private schools will carry only one-third of their bus capacities. School buses need sanitization twice a day.
