Science Seminar is Important for National Development: Jagdish Mukhi

GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi inaugurated the National Science Seminar-2019 on the topic Periodic Table of Chemical Elements: Impact on Human Welfare at Regional Science Centre in the city on Wednesday.

Addressing the seminar where selected students also participated, the Governor said, “India is a developing country where science and technology play a vital role in the achievement of its development aspirations”. Terming the students as the future of the nation, the Governor said that the present education system which is largely based on the proliferation of science and technology, should address the holistic development of the children. He also said that the science seminars like the one being held in Regional Science Centre should stimulate scientific zeal in the students and enrich their scientific bent of mind. He also lauded the seminar for being a great platform for expression and presentation of the scientific ideas and views of the budding scientists which according to him would go a long way for the development of human resources in 21st century.

According to a press release, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi also said that science and technology in the present century has made spectacular advancements in diverse fields. He also said that science centres are touted throughout the world as one of the effective media for disseminating scientific ideas and showcasing the developments of science and technology among the masses with the basic objective of improving the quality of life. Moreover, adequate knowledge and proper understanding of the basic principles of science help the students to broaden their mental horizon. He also observed that science helps to generate rational and logical thinking in day to day activities which leads a student to become wise.

The Governor also expressed happiness on the fact that Regional Science Centre, Guwahati witness turnout of over 5.50 lakh visitors annually in its galleries and different scientific programmes.
