GUWAHATI, May 19: The Asom Anusuchito Jaati Yuba-Chatra Santha (AAJJCS) took out a procession from Ambedkar Bhawan at Uzan Bazar to the office of the deputy commissioner, Guwahati on Saturday. They sent a memorandum to the Prime Minister against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 through the Deputy Commissioner.
In a statement issued to the press on Saturday, Santha president Nripen Das and secretary Nityananda Das have said that the Bill is against Assam and its people. “The Bill, is passed by parliament, is going to affect the 43 lakh Schduled Caste population in the State. This apart, the Bill is going to protect a section Hindu Bangladeshis who have been trying to get Indian citizenship,” Nripen Das said, and added that they are going to intensify their agitation if the government does not cancel the Bill.
