GUWAHATI: Security Week observance which began on December 13 at Guwahati Refinery concluded on Wednesday through a valedictory function organized at the GR L&D Centre at Noonmati. The valedictory programme was attended by Diganta Borah, IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police (Guwahati), as the chief guest, besides the presence of Jogen Barpujari, Executive Director (Guwahati Refinery), and other senior officials of the refinery.
In his speech as the chief guest, Borah said that security is not solely the responsibility of the uniformed men and women but also of the common people of the country. He said that even the common people should have the consciousness to ensure security of them first before helping others.
“In a country of 1.2 billion people, ensuring security to every citizen by uniformed personnel is impossible. Therefore, events such as security week celebrations are organized to generate awareness among the common people on the importance of staying alert and vigilant to avert any untoward incident,” he further said. He also urged the security personnel to continue working with sincerity in order to keep hypersensitive installations at Guwahati Refinery secure from any fringe elements.
At the programme, Jogen Barpujari, ED (GR), gave a brief account on the initiatives taken up by the Refinery to ensure security of its installations and township. He also expressed his gratitude towards Assam Police, CISF, AISF, CRPF, Home Guards and those who are associated with the security of Guwahati Refinery, for their support in enhancing security of the refinery. He requested all for continuous support in future as well.
Borah later handed over awards to the winners of various competitions organized during the week including quiz competitions and slogan writing competitions for employees, contractual laborers as well as security personnel. He also inaugurated an e-bulletin which featured accounts of the week-long celebration of security week at the Refinery. As part of the week, security mock drill, awareness generation programme, friendly volleyball match between CISF and Home Guards, and health check up camp for Home Guards were also held.
