Seminar on Correct Implementation of Disabilities Act, 2016 Held At Guwahati

GUWAHATI: A Regional Seminar on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 was organized by Shishu Sarothi in partnership with the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP), New Delhi at Guwahati, with support from Mphasis. Almost two years have elapsed since the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 came into force, and a whole lot remains to be done for the law to take off the ground. The impact of the Act lies in its implementation and unless there is enough awareness on the said Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act (RPD Act), the same would not be effectively implemented and rights will never translate into reality.

According to a press release, Arman Ali, Executive Director, NCPEDP and Rajive Raturi, Head, Law, and Policies, NCPEDP were the key resource persons for the seminar along with Amvalika Senapati, Disability Law Unit, Shishu Sarothi. Kausar Hilaly, the Assam State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities was present on the occasion and actively participated in the discussions and issues raised by the participants.
