Senior Irrigation official arrested for bribery in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Vigilance and anti corruption cell of Assam Police caught red handed a Senior Assistant of the Chief Engineer of Irrigation Office, Deep Bania in a bribery case. According to sources, that a complaint was received at Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, alleging that Deep Bania, demanded Rs. 2,000 as bribe from the complainant for processing his pension case.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached this Directorate for taking necessary legal action against the above-mentioned public servant. Accordingly, a trap was laid on Monday by a team from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, at said office and arrested him red handed immediately after he accepted Rs. 2,000 as bribe from the complainant.

The tainted bribe money has been recovered from his possession and has been seized in presence of independent witnesses

A case has been registered in ACB Police Station on Monday vide ACB P.S. Case No. 03/2023 U/S 7(a)of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) against Deep Bania.
