Senior Journalist Naresh Mitra passes away in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Naresh Mitra, a senior journalist, passed away at a hospital in Guwahati on Monday morning. He was 46 and leaves behind his parents, wife, a brother, wife and a minor daughter. He was undergoing treatment at ICU of the hospital after he sustained head injuries last month.

Known for amiable disposition and high professional ethics, Mitra was specialized in wildlife reporting. His death cast a pall gloom and caused shock across the State.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal deeply condoled the death and said it was a great loss for good journalism.

“As a journalist, Naresh Mitra will be remembered by all. He was known for his hard work, sincerity and insightful reporting. His untimely demise has created a void which will be hard to fill,” said Industries & Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary.

Patowary also prayed to the Almighty for eternal peace of the departed soul and extended his condolences to members of the bereaved family.

Media Adviser to Chief Minister Hrishikesh Goswami also condoled the death.

Various media organizations, including Guwahati Press Club and the Assam BJP have expressed grief over the death of Mitra. His last rites were performed at Bhutnath crematorium here on Monday afternoon.
