STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: To ensure free and smooth movement of the public, smooth flow of traffic and normal functioning of business establishments in the areas from Bhangagarh flyover to Roopnagar Rotary and from the Six Mile flyover to Panjabari, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Admn), Hemanta Kumar Das has issued an order prohibiting the opening of shops of perishable and unperishable goods/tea stalls and carrying out of any kind of business by encroaching upon roads and footpaths in areas that fall under Bhangagarh and Dispur Police Stations, East Police District, Guwahati.

The order issued on February 28, 2022, stated that vendors were causing inconvenience to pedestrians, commuters and the local public by opening shops of perishable and unperishable goods or tea stalls by encroaching upon the roads and footpaths in areas which fall under Bhangagarh and Dispur Police Stations. Such encroachment leads to accidents on the roads. Because of the encroachment on the roads and footpaths, an unusual gathering of people takes place due to which criminal elements take the chance of robbing people.

Hence, in exercise of powers conferred under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1 1973 and read with Government of Assam notification no. HMA.735/2008/pt-I/243, dated 24.12.2014, Hemanta Kumar Das issued the order. The order comes into immediate effect. Any person aggrieved with this order can appear before the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Admn) for filing their written objection, if any, for cancellation/modification of the order.
